The Nunavut Research Institute has released a new document entitled "Health Research in Nunavut: Special Considerations for Remote Data Collection". This document provides guidance for researchers who plan to collect data remotely from or about Nunavummiut using either of these methods:
- Medical Chart Review at Tertiary Care Centers
- Survey-based Research originating from outside of Nunavut.
Please review the new guidelines carefully before applying for a research license to conduct remote research activities. The guidelines include important instructions for applicants on how to obtain a waiver of consent from NRI to utilize patient health records for research purposes. Although the guidelines are intended primarily for health research, they also apply to social sciences research activities that employ remote survey techniques to gather information from Nunavummiut.
