The Nunavut Research Institute (NRI) is proud to release a report on research trends in Nunavut from 2004 to 2019 in the health, social, and natural sciences disciplines. You can download the report here, or obtain it from:

This report was created through a partnership between the NRI and researchers at McMaster University and Carleton University. We reviewed the NRI’s scientific research licensing database to identify trends in research location, leadership, topics, methods, reporting tools, and community engagement.
We wrote this report mainly to help Nunavummiut learn about who is doing research, what they are studying, and where. We also explain the NRI’s research licensing process and provide some information on researchers’ responsibilities and community members’ rights in research. Community-specific research trends reports will be available in Fall 2022.
We hope this report can provide a baseline to track changes in research across Nunavut over time; and to help us determine if science in Nunavut is adapting and evolving to meet the needs and expectations of Nunavummiut.
